Cotswold Country House garden restoration

Set in the heart of the Cotswolds and overlooking a stunning valley, this Cotswold Country House was originally three cottages. The garden reflected this with each cottage having its own adjoining land laid out in different ways. The house had been converted but you still approached the house through narrow wooden gates down a single track drive with inadequate turning space at the end.

There was only parking for two cars and when you had managed to turn round, visibility out through the gates was poor. It was important to widen the entrance for safety reasons and just as important to enable you to drive in and out of the property comfortably.

Now there is good visibility onto the road, a lovely drive taking you to the house and back out round the maturing herbaceous border, with plenty of parking space overlooking the stunning valley.

The other major change was to develop the south and west side of the garden to make room for a new kitchen and to make the most of the evening sun. This area was very overgrown and dark.

The spoil from this construction was used to make contours on the lower lawn below the house, which were later grassed over. This helped to set the house in the surrounding landscape as well as creating natural grass paths to complete the journey round the garden.

The major works have opened up a stunning area to set the kitchen in, with raised beds for vegetables built into the banks around the house and a large lawn for entertaining that overlooks the valley.

Although some planting has been done there is still more to do around the swimming pool area. A new pergola was put in cutting through the mature Box hedge to give easier access to the pool from the back door and more planting up will take place over the next couple of years.
